Over 100 sunbathers in Dubai fined for breaching mask and distancing rules

More than 100 beachgoers and sunbathers across Dubai have been fined for not complying with a face mask and social distancing rules of 2m.

Dubai’s hotel beaches were the first to open followed by public beaches including JBR, Al Mamzar, Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim re-opened on May 29. And new rules were created to help prevent the spread of Coronavirus.

Sunbathers and beachgoers in Dubai need to gather in groups of five or less and wear a mask at all times. And, if you are caught not wearing a mask and maintaining a safe distance, you’re likely to be given an on-the-spot fine.

“People were not adhering to precautionary measures and during the first three days of re-opening beaches, around 100 fines were issued against offenders,” said Lt Col Ahmad Al Marzouqi, from the beaches security section at the ports police station.

And it’s not just police officers you need to keep an eye out for as the force are also use drones to catch offenders.

So stay safe out there if you’re getting some sun. And don’t forget extra suntan lotion to keep those face mask tan lines away!
