Dubai Airports’ passengers will no longer have to wait for long to pass the immigration with the introduction of the new Smart Gate service starting by the end of May.
Clearing the immigration will take ten seconds
Passengers are required to present either their passport, Emirates ID, E-Gate or a QR barcode by the General Directorate of Residency and Foreign Affairs(GDRFA) app to clear the immigration, which will take ten seconds to complete passport clearance.

E-Gate services were the fastest processor at the immigration
Previously, the E-Gate technology was the fastest processor for passport clearance, taking up to 17 seconds. The time taken at the E-Gates were to process passengers’ credentials and identity cards. With the arrival Smart Gates, manual passport clearance will be a thing of the past.
Dubai Immigration received more than 13.5 million
Since January till March this year, immigration checkpoints across Dubai received more than 13.5 million passengers, out of which 6.5 million were inbound passengers and 6.8 million were outbound passengers. The new technology will reduce waiting time for passengers while at the checkpoints.
