Music mogul Dr Dre lost a humorous legal battle assuming that it would mislead music fans to buy products from a doctor who trademarked the name ‘Dr Dai’.
Case has been going on since three years
Gynecologist Draion M Burch has initially applied for a trademark to the name ‘Dr Drai’ and had caught the attention of the West Coast rapper, who reasoned out the two names “sound similar” and would “cause confusion”, according to quotes reported by Hip Hop DX. Due to lack of evidence, the case was dismissed and Dr. Dre lost the case.
While the case was going on, Burch pointed out that Dr. Dre’s lack of association to the field of medicine wouldn’t get buyers confused and associating the rapper to Burch’s books and products would damage his reputation. This led the US’ trademark office to dismiss the case.
Dr. Dre recently performed at Coachella
Last month, music fans from all over the world attend the annual Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in California with a star-studded line up including Beyonce, The Weeknd, Eminem, Cardi B, G Eazy and many more.
