Residents and citizens in Ras Al Khaimah will follow a three days-morning period after the death of a royal family member.
Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Qasimi passed away
Yesterday, the death was announced followed by the 3 days mourning period by The Royal Court of His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, ruler of Ras Al Khaimah. Sheikh Hamad was a member of the emirate’s Al Qasimi royal family. An official statement reads “The Royal Court (Diwan) announces the death of Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed on the Shawwal 17 which coincides with July 1. We offer our condolences to the Al Qasimi family and loved ones of the deceased.”
Funeral prayers will be held today
Sheikh Hamad will be buried in the Al Qawasim cemetery after the funeral prayers at Sheikh Zayed Mosque at 8 pm. His family will accept condolences at the Al Diyafa Mosque from 9pm-12pm today and from 4 pm to 7 pm for the rest three days. Whereas, condolences for women will be accepted at the late Sheikh Sultan bin Saqr Al Qasimi’s house, former ruler of Ras Al Khaimah.
Sheikh Hamad was in his 80s
According to The National, the late Sheikh was in his 80s but his exact age is unconfirmed. He was the uncle of RAK’s ruler, Sheikh Saud, who belong to the Al Qasimi family, one of the most powerful families in the country. They rule two emirates, Ras Al Khaimah and Sharjah, which is ruled by His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi.
