Devastation in Burjuman this weekend as a careless driver lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a bank, leaving the driver and passenger injured.
No customers injured
Video footage from the accident last Thursday, 30th August at 10 pm showed customers at an Emirates NBD branch frantically run to dodge a speeding SUV driving towards the bank. The SUV crashed into a fence, a glass window entrance and eventually into an ATM machine. The driver has been referred to Public Prosecution.
Driver wasn’t under the influence of any drugs or alcohol
Lieutenant Colonel Faisal Al Qasim, Director of Security Media Department says the driver, identified as an Asian man in his ’40s, wasn’t under any influence of drugs or alcohol, nor did he use his smartphone, but the reason for the accident was “negligence”. According to Khaleej Times, he was faced by a car “in front of him” and instead of him applying brakes, he stepped on the accelerator and eventually hit the barriers.
Caution: Keep away from spreading fake news via social media
Videos of the accident footage circulating via social media with messages claiming the accident was fatal and led to numerous casualties are untrue. Speaking to Gulf News, Al Qasim said “The accident was minor and nobody killed. Video of the accident circulated on social networks claiming it was a big accident with a lot of casualties which is not true.” There’s a fine up to Dhs1 million for sharing fake news.
