Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships’ Men’s Week started last Saturday and Swiss Tennis legend Roger Federer has begun his campaign on a winning note after defeating Philipp Kohlschreiber.
Victory over Philipp Kohlschreiber
Chances of a victory seemed high for Roger Federer. Statistics show, the world number seven had a 13-0 win record against Philipp Kohlschreiber and remains undefeated after winning 6-4, 3-6, 6-1. Speaking about the third set, he said, “I’m very pleased I was able to find a way. I actually played a really good third set, I thought.”
Eye on 100th title
Federer won his 99th title last October in Basel, defeating Russia’s Daniil Medvedev 6-1, 6-4. Since then, his closest bid at claiming the 100th title was at the Paris Masters’ where he lost to Novak Djokovic 7-6, 5-7, 7-6 in the semi-final. The 37-year-old stands second in history for most ATP titles, behind USA’s Jimmy Connors record of 109 titles.
