Portugal and Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo is the latest global star to be given a Gold Card residency visa in the UAE.

Ronaldo is no stranger at all to Dubai. Last year, he was named ‘Best Player of the Year’ at the annual Dubai Globe Soccer Awards. And here he is with new best mate Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai. Oh, and here he is in Dubai wearing the world’s most expensive watch!

And Ronaldo is the latest to be given a Gold Card visa, giving him a long-term residency permit in the UAE.

The UAE Cabinet give the Gold Card visa to creators, scientists and entrepreneurs based on their contribution and influence on society. And that remit now covers promising athletes, as Ronaldo has just discovered. In total, nearly 7,000 investors and residents from around 70 countries have been chosen for the visa. And they’re investment is worth around AED100 billion. So Ronaldo seems to be a good fit!

Ronaldo most-followed user on Instagram

Ronaldo, who recently turned 35, shows no sign of slowing down. He’s scored 41 times for Juventus in just 51 games and is still leading the line for his native Portugal.

The hot-shot footballer has also grown into one of the most marketable names in the world. He’s the most-followed person on Instagram and earnt more than 700 million Euros from 2010 to 2019. Which is just an insane amount of money.

And he’s got a big fan base in the UAE with his CR7 shirt often spotted in malls and in nights out.

So, in summary… that’s nine red cards, 131 yellow cards and 1 Gold Card in his career. Not bad, Ronaldo, not bad!

I wonder if they’ll be looking to give out Gold Card visas for table football skills? We’re pretty good, if not world-class.
