Dubai Police have arrested several DJs and event managers after they put on a club night in Dubai that broke Covid-19 rules.
The party took place on Friday night and videos of the night quickly went viral.
The event broke several of the regulations issued by the UAE’s Attorney General.
“The manager of the tourism company and its marketing director were arrested with the DJ after a video went viral on social media of the party. The organisers, who had not acquired necessary permission from the competent authorities, clearly violated social distancing rules and the announced precautionary measures. They put the lives of many at risk,” Brigadier Jamal Salem Al Jallaf, Director of Criminal Investigation Department at Dubai Police, said in a statement.
It’s thought the Dubai organisers and DJs were hit with an AED10,000 fine due to the club night. And Dubai Police called on people in the UAE to respect the rules.
“Dubai Police won’t tolerate violators to the announced precautionary measures to curb COVID-19. These measures have been put in place to protect members of the community and curb the pandemic,” Brig Al Jallaf added.
The news comes as Dubai reported over 1,000 Covid-19 cases last Saturday. It’s the highest number recorded since the pandemic started.
According to Dr Farida Al Hosani, a spokeswoman for the UAE health sector, there has been a five-fold increase in infection rates since August 10. And they said that ‘88% of the cases’ were due to gatherings and people breaking quarantine protocol.
