Sheets of ice form in the UAE as temperatures drop to freezing

Sheets of ice were created this weekend on Jebel Jais, the highest mountain in the UAE, as temperatures dropped to freezing.

Ras Al Khaimah’s Government Media Office shared a video of the mountain top impressively decorated in frozen ice.

The 1,934m high mountain was hit by temperatures just below freezing over the weekend, turning pools of water into sheets of ice.

While mountain areas have seen the mercury drop to below zero, Dubai and Abu Dhabi have enjoyed temperatures as low as 12ºC. And thanks to low humidity, those conditions feel even colder.

Many desert areas in the UAE have had temperatures in single figures over the past few days.

And the low temperatures are set to continue across the UAE. The UAE will have highs of just 25ºC this week with lows of 15ºC. And temperatures in rural areas will continue to be in single figures.

There will also be misty and foggy mornings.
