Dubai Metro Sheikh Mohammed 10 Ten Years

Sheikh Mohammed Shares A Heartfelt Message About Dubai Metro

Today marks a decade since Dubai Metro first started operations, and HH Sheikh Mohammed has a special message to mark the milestone.

Sheikh Mohammed’s vision for Dubai Metro started after visiting London

Inspired by the London Underground, Emir of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum says first saw a train’s cockpit in 1959 when his father, the late HH Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum insisted he saw it.

Dubai Metro becomes a reality 50 years later

Works on the rail network started in the mid-‘00s when the Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) began building concrete pillars and viaducts. Fast forward to 2009, Sheikh Mohammed inaugurates Dubai Metro, creating a world record for the world’s longest fully automated metro network, spanning at 75 kilometres.

Sheikh Mohammed: “Some rejected” the idea of Dubai Metro

“Back then, I consulted members of the Executive Council in Dubai whether they support the idea or not. Some rejected it, under the pretext of people’s non-acceptance of the use of Metro.”
