Shisha Services Now Allowed In Abu Dhabi Following 10-Month Ban

Shisha lovers in Abu Dhabi will be pleased to hear this news!

Licensed restaurants and cafes in Abu Dhabi may now resume shisha services. Strict Covid-19 safety measures should however remain in place.

Authorities in Abu Dhabi banned the serving of shisha across the emirate since March, in order to limit the spread of the virus.

Shisha Now Permitted In Abu Dhabi

On Sunday 3rd January, Abu Dhabi’s Department of Economic Development said the services would be permitted at “licensed restaurants, cafes and tourist service facilities”.

Of course, all Covid-19 safety measures must be followed.

All smoking areas must be isolated and single-use hookah equipment and pipes must be used at all times. You won’t be able to sample hookah before it is served either!

Also – no more than four people can sit at tables .

Staff in these establishments must undergo Covid-19 testing every two weeks and regular temperature checks of both employees and customers have to be conducted. The number of cleaning shifts in all smoking areas will also have to be increased.

Ban Lifted In Dubai

The ban on serving shisha was lifted in Dubai in July 2020 already while Ras Al Khaimah followed suit in August.

Social distancing practices and very strict hygiene standards remain in place, such as wearing face masks and the use of hand sanitiser, must be followed.

Only disposable shisha hoses are allowed.
