The UAE has confirmed that Skype for Business, Zoom, Google Hangouts and other apps have now been unblocked for students and residents to use.
With companies, schools and offices increasingly working from home, the UAE’s Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has announced that five applications will now be available to use.

A TRA statement said: “In the context of the current situation, and as part of the TRA’s efforts to support distance learning and working from home, the TRA – in coordination with the UAE telecom operators – announces the availability of a group of applications until further notice.”
Skype for Business is one of the leading video chat applications in the world. It has been blocked for years in Dubai, so it’s great news that the UAE can finally access the platform.
Zoom is another brilliant video chat application that lets you connect and chat with group messaging and video conferencing for free.
And Google Hangouts is another free video and voice call app that lets you chat with up to 150 people at one time.
