We’re still several years out from the unveiling of the next-gen PlayStation 5 model, but its parent company Sony has revealed some crazy details of what’s expected from the successor model.
PlayStation 5 image rendering 10x faster than PS4 Pro
It may sound hard to believe, but Sony’s tech team has been up to insane hardware rehaul of late! In a corporate strategy presentation this week, Sony unveiled the PS5 model’s imagery which renders ten times faster than the PS4 model. It can render a full 3D scene in less than a second, compared to the eight seconds it took the PS4 Pro. Check out the demonstration:
Custom SSDs for PlayStation 5
Instead of a hard drive, Sony is opting for a custom-made solid-state drive (SSD) to speed up image-rendering. Other enhancements include a third-gen AMD Ryzen CPU with eight cores and a custom Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) which supports ray tracing, a rendering technique that provides consoles with immersive 3D audio. The PS5 is also capable of supporting 8K graphics.
Sony pulls out from E3 2019
It also comes as a surprise that the tech mogul is skipping the annual gaming conference, E3, next month. They claim they’re focusing on “new and familiar ways to engage” with the gaming community. Sony said, “PlayStation fans mean the world to us and we always want to innovate, think differently and experiment with new ways to delight gamers. As a result, we have decided not to participate in E3 in 2019. We are exploring new and familiar ways to engage our community in 2019 and can’t wait to share our plans with you.”
