Sony has filed a pretty amazing – and weird – patent that would let you turn everyday items into Playstation controllers, including bananas.
The patent request gives an illustration of how its patent would work using a banana.
We’re not sure we’ve written a stranger sentence this year, but it’s all 100% true. And yes, we did check when April Fools was as well!
Basically, their patent lets players use ‘non-luminous passive’ objects as a video game controller. So you shake a banana at the screen and it will then control your tennis racket, for example.
A camera will map virtual buttons on the object and track the motion with pixels, contours and colours.
One way in which it could be used is to save money buying a second controller. Instead you could simply through your friend a banana and get stuck into your favourite multiplayer.

It’s important to note this is just a patent – it’s not been made into an actual product yet. But we definitely think this is the most bananas idea from Playstation yet.
