US online retail mogul Amazon has officially launched in the region, rebranding Souq.com to the all-new Amazon.ae.
Souq.com rebranded Amazon.ae
Online shoppers logging on to Souq.com will now be redirected to Amazon.ae. The new domain opened with a welcoming message from Amazon Middle East’s Vice President, Ronaldo Mouchawar, who says the online retailer sells more than 30 million items, including those previously available on Souq.com, as well as five million products from the US. The website is available in Arabic too.

AED 2.13 billion acquisition
Souq.com’s rebranding comes after Amazon’s $580 million (Dh2.13 billion) acquisition in 2017. It was the largest-ever acquisition of a Middle East-based tech start-up until ride-hailing giant Uber announced the hotly-anticipated acquisition of its Middle East rival, Careem, for a whopping $3.1 billion (AED 11.3b) last month.
Daily deals commenced
In addition to the weekend-long super sales currently on in the city, Amazon.ae is offering a plethora of items at discounted rates, including smartphones, cameras, accessories and sports equipment. They also provide free shipping and the cash-on-delivery option. The deals, however, are subject to availability. Check out the deals here.
