Think you can win a desert half-marathon packed with obstacles, steep climbs, barbed wire and a rope climb? Then the Abu Dhabi Spartan World Championship could be just the ticket!
The world-famous championship is coming to Abu Dhabi’s desert this December, the first time the race has been held outside of America.
The event runs from December 4 and 5 and includes the Elite Spartan World Championship, Spartan Team World Championship and Spartan Kids World Championship to the UAE capital.
In total, there’s around AED440,000 up for grabs in prize money, with some of the biggest names in the sport competing for the title.
To win, you’ll need to conquer the Spartan Beast half-marathon trail including a mix of high-speed running and steep climbs. Plus around 30 obstacles including the spear throw, barbed wire crawl and rope climb.
Kids and team events as well
The Spartan World Championship isn’t just about elite athletes, however. There’s a Spartan Kids World Championship for children aged four to 10, the Team World Championship and an amateur Open Beast race.
The two-day event in Liwa will also include pop up food stands, dune bashing, yoga classes and a closing firework ceremony.
“It gives me great pleasure to announce that the Spartan World Championship will be staged in Abu Dhabi – for the first time ever outside the United States of America,” said His Excellency Aref Hamad Al Awani, general secretary of Abu Dhabi Sports Council.
“Abu Dhabi offers the participants a unique new landscape to conquer on the beautiful desert terrains and soft sand dunes befitting a competition of this nature.”
