‘Squid Game’ competition coming to Abu Dhabi

Squid Game is the latest must-watch Netflix show and 30 lucky people will get to play their own version in Abu Dhabi.

Since launching in September, Squid Game has become the most-watched show on Netflix.

The show features ‘hundreds of cash-strapped contestants who accept an invitation to compete in children’s games for a tempting prize, but the stakes are deadly.’

We’ve recently finished binge-watching it and can confirm it’s great!

And the deadly show, based on childhood Korean Games, is coming to Abu Dhabi this week.

Over 300 people applied to play the game and a lucky 30 have been selected to play Squid Game at the Korean Cultural Center in Abu Dhabi.

It’s important to state: while the original Netflix version is as gory as possible, the Abu Dhabi games won’t involve killing. Phew! And there’s no prize money either.

Everything else will be faithfully recreated including the uniforms with the Squid Games logos.

The Korean Cultural Centre said: “The games seemed a bit brutal in the series to maximise the dramatic element, however, actually all the games in the series are popular games played by Korean children from the past to the present. KCC would like the people in the UAE to learn more about Korean culture by participating in the event.”

The players will have to negotiate through five rounds including Green light/red light, glass stepping stones, the dalgona game, marbles and ttakji.

Good luck from the DubaiLAD team!
