Winter sunshine and sports go hand in hand in the UAE. So we’re delighted the rain has gone and we’ve got three epic events to look forward this month including MMA, golf and the marathon. Here’s a quick run-down of the best sporting events coming to the UAE this month…

UAE Warriors do battle

With McGregor’s recent 40-second victory fresh in our memory, we’re kick-starting our UAE sporting events feature with the UAE Warriors. They take over Mubadala Arena on January 31 and we’re expecting quite the rumble!

We’re big fans of UAE Warriors, the MMA organisation founded in 2012 in Abu Dhabi, and will be cage-side to catch all the action live.

In total, they have 11 fights with fighters from 17 countries including Seb Eubank, Ahmed Labban and the colossal Alexandru Lungu. And by colossal, we mean 25 stone colossal! Plus you can catch Lebanese strongman and popular Dubai resident Roman Wehbe in action.

Dubai Marathon

It’s still not too late to register for the Dubai Marathon (or the 10km road race or 4km fun run) as you have until 5pm on January 24. If like us, you’ve not quite put in the hard yards this year, you can still cheer the runners on.

The 20th edition of the race starts from near Madinat Jumeirah and essentially follows a big loop along the coastline. The record of two hours and three minutes was set last year. But could someone follow in Eliud Kipchoge’s footsteps and go under two hours this year?

Dubai Desert Classic

Thankfully like the UAE Warriors, there’s no participation in this sport. Instead, we get to sit back in the sunshine and watch the world’s best golfers smash balls around for four days. Bliss.

Defending champion Bryson DeChambeau, Lee Westwood and Tommy Fleetwood are some of the names to look out for at Emirates Golf Club. The action starts from Thursday morning and runs until Sunday evening.

And if anyone needs us this weekend, we’ll be at the Barasti pop-up bar on the 15th green, drinking in the action.
