We love a supercar in Dubai and cars don’t get much more super than the SSC Tuatara which just became the world’s fastest car.
The Shelby Supercars (SSC) team set a new top speed record for a production car when the Tuatara hit 331mph on a road outside of Las Vegas, Nevada. Just check out the speedster in action!
European cars have been dominating the speed records in recent years. But American car makers Shelby have roared back in some style, with the Tuatara smashing the record previously held by the Bugatti Chiron.
British racing driver Oliver Webb was the man behind the wheel on the record-breaking drive. His first run was only – only! – 301mph. So he literally put his foot down on the second run and hit 331mph. And an average of 316mph across the two runs.
Incredibly, Webb thinks the car could go even faster!
“There was definitely more in there. And with better conditions, I know we could have gone faster, as I approached 331 mph, the Tuatara climbed almost 20mph within the last five seconds. The car wasn’t running out of steam yet. The crosswinds are all that prevented us from realising the car’s limit.”
