This ultra-futuristic ‘Flying-V’ airplane could revolutionise air travel

The future is coming at us very, very fast – and looking super stylish as well thanks to this Flying V airplane which could revolutionise air travel.

The Flying V totally remodels the way an airplane looks and flies. The passenger cabins, fuel tanks and cargo holds are now in the wings. And the aerodynamic look is translated into savings as it should cut fuel consumption by 20%.

The gorgeous model is the brainchild of KLM and Airbus and passed a series of tests at the Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands.

At present, the team are working with a 1/20th scale model which measures in at 22.5 kg and 3m long. But having passed the first bank of tests, they’re hoping to scale up the plane.

The plane takes off at around 80km/h and they’re using the data to program flight simulator tests. And it’s hoped that the final plane could carry liquid hydrogen instead of conventional fuel, thus making it even more eco-friendly.

We wonder if Emirates will be on board for these futuristic flyers? The DubaiLAD team would definitely take a flight!
