American president Donald Trump told reporters on Air Force One that he plans to ban TikTok from the United States.
Trump stated that he could sign an ‘executive order’ as early as Saturday and is reportedly concerned TikTok can be used to harvest American data.
TikTok is one of the fastest-growing apps in the world. And it has 80 million active monthly users, making it a hugely popular network. TikTok was founded in 2012 and had over 700 million downloads last year.
The app is popular thanks to short dance, lip-sync, comedy and talent videos, may of which have gone viral.
There are concerns that TikTok is being used as a political tool. Tensions continue to rise between China and America due to trade disputes and the Coronavirus outbreak.
It’s also not clear what authority Trump has to actually ban the app. Nor how the ban would be enforced or what legal challenges they’d face.
TikTok meanwhile has denied any Chinese control and has vowed to be ‘here for the long run.’ Which we’re happy about as we love finding amazing content on their site. Including this amazing lady. Who Trump probably doesn’t like very much
