UAE Braces For A Once-In-A-Lifetime ‘Ring Of Fire’ Eclipse

A ring of sunshine will blaze above the UAE as the rare ‘Ring of Fire’ solar eclipse is expected to take place this Thursday, 26th December.

A rare spectacle in astronomy, the moon will pass between the sun and earth, casting a shadow of itself on our planet surrounded by the sun shining brightly in a ring-like appearance. The occasion last took place 172 years ago in the UAE and it won’t happen until after 83 years!

Burj Khalifa offering a ‘rare’ opportunity to watch the ‘Ring of Fire’

As the ‘Ring of Fire’ passes through the UAE at 7:02 am this Thursday, the Dubai Astronomy Group is offering stargazers a rare opportunity to catch the spectacle from the world’s highest observatory, Burj Khalifa’s ‘At The Top.’

Attendees will be given Solar Eclipse Glasses & Telescopes with solar filters to view the ‘Ring of Fire,’ with Dubai Astronomy Group CEO Mr. Hasan Al Hariri presenting a talk on the phenomenon, followed by breakfast and a tour of the skyscraper. Tickets cost Dhs 300 and are available via this link.

Here are the best spots to catch the ‘Ring of Fire’

Apart from ‘At The Top,’ The UAE Space Agency is hosting a slew of viewing events at Liwa Hills Hotel, Qasr Al Sarab Desert Resort and Abu Dhabi’s Marina Mall. The events are free to attend.

Also, your best shot at witnessing the ‘Ring of Fire would be at the Liwa Desert, as the spectacle will be visible in entirety.
