UAE Honours Sheikh Sabah By Setting World Record For World’s Largest Sand Image

Groups of Emiratis volunteered in creating a record-breaking portrait of Kuwait’s Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, that has been into the Guinness Book of World Records for the “World’s largest sand image.”

Created entirely by Emirati volunteers, the portrait took over 100 days to curate and come up with the portrait of Kuwait’s Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, in time for Kuwait’s National Day last month. The portrait spans a whopping 170,000 square feet to earn the title of the world’s largest sand image. It can be viewed from space too.

Sheikh Mohammed’s heartfelt message for Kuwait

To celebrate Kuwait’s National Day, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Ruler of Dubai, Prime Minister and Vice President of UAE, took to Twitter to share a timelapse of the portrait’s creation alongside a special message for Sheikh Sabah. He said, “The love of Kuwait and the people of Kuwait is etched into our land… in our hearts… in our history… May beloved Kuwait and its emir, prince of humanity, continue to see years of prosperity and peace.”

In time for UAE Flag Day last November, the annual pop up ‘Flag Garden’ in Kite Beach was home to a portrait of UAE President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The portrait was created using 4,000 flags What’s more, the President’s portrait was sided with verses from Sheikh Mohammed’s poem, ‘To Khalifa.’
