UAE Is Attempting To Grow A Palm Tree In Space

UAE is taking its space efforts one notch further, attempting to grow a palm tree at the International Space Station (ISS).

Growing a palm tree in space, say what?!

First, the UAE built a man-made palm over the Arabian Sea, Now, the nation is attempting to grow a palm tree in space. Is there any country that could match the vision of our country?

Recently, UAE sent homegrown palm tree seeds to the Falcon 9 rocket launched from Elon Musk’s SpaceX. The seeds have reached the ISS, where they plan to carry out experiments of germinating the seeds.

Palm tree seeds able to sustain life in the “harshest of conditions”

Dr Khalid Al Hashimi from the UAE’s Space Agency says, “We chose to send palm tree seeds to the International Space Station both because of their importance to the UAE’s culture and heritage, as well as the fact that they are able to withstand the harshest of conditions and are often planted in circumstances that resemble aspects of the Martian environment.”

Loads of unusual stuff found at the ISS

If you find the seeds crazy, you wouldn’t believe what some astronauts have taken to the space station. One took silver snoopy pins, an R2D2 droid, Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber, Christmas decorations and Lego.
