UAE may require annual Covid-19 vaccine

People in the UAE will probably need an annual Covid-19 vaccine to protect themselves from the virus according to a leading UAE health official.

This is due to the number of mutations that have been discovered in recent months.

“The more virus mutates, the more likely it is we’ll need to vaccinate annually against it,” said Dr Farida Al Hosani, the spokeswoman for the UAE’s government health authorities said recently during an online panel.

For comparison, the flu vaccine is offered annually and protects against up to four strains.

Vaccine manufacturers have said tests have shown their shots still work against the variants, but their success at fighting the virus might be reduced.

Which might mean a new annual vaccine is needed each year to fight different strains of the Covid-19 virus.

Dubai restaurants are now offering discounts if you’ve had the Covid vaccine

A group of popular restaurants in the UAE including Reform, Bistro Des Artes and Publique have announced discounts if you’ve had the vaccine.

The Gates Hospitality team run a large group of outlets incuding Bistro Des Arts, Reform Social Bar & Grill and Publique. And they’re offering a 10% discount at their restaurants if you’ve had your first dose of vaccine. And they’ve doubled down with 20% off if you’ve had your second injection.

Naturally, you’ll need to show proof of your vaccine when you come to pay the bill.

And after the tough, tough year that the hospitality industry has had to deal with, it’s great to see them taking the initiative and getting people eating out again.

And they’ve even come up with a nifty tag line: spread love, not rona. That’s a message the DubaiLAD team can definitely get behind!
