UAE petrol prices rise by nearly 40% in just six months

UAE petrol prices have jumped again for next month with prices up nearly 40% over the last six months of the year.

Petrol prices are rising to AED2.58 per litre from Sunday, August 1. So you might want to top up before then!

And it’s the sixth month in a row that petrol prices have risen in the UAE.

They started at AED1.91 in January and have now risen to AED2.58, a rise of 35%.

And while petrol prices are still relatively low compared to many other countries, that’s a huge price rise for the UAE.

The UAE’s Ministry of Energy first set fuel prices back in August 2015 using average global prices. Before that, petrol was subsidised by the UAE government, meaning users didn’t feel the global price changes.

Looking back, petrol prices were AED 1.72 in July 2015. But with petrol prices on the rise, it’s a bigger incentive to go green and get an electric car!
