The UAE’s National Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) says that the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine gives up to 100% protection against moderate and severe Covid-19 infections.
The NCEMA said in a tweet, it said the vaccine achieved positive results, with the effectiveness rate reaching 86 per cent.
This announcement follows Phase III clinical trials of the Sinopharm and Russia’s Sputnik V vaccine which was revealed at last week’s Covid-19 briefing held by the UAE Government.
NCEMA Launched The Hope Consortium In November 2020
The NCEMA also said that the ‘Hope Consortium’ which was launched by the UAE in November 2020, is prepared to facilitate and support the distribution of 6 billion doses of vaccinations around the world. The aim is to increase this capacity to 18 billion by the end of this year.
Back in the UAE, Dubai is planning to inoculate 70% of its population with the Pfizer and BioNTech Covid-19 vaccines by the end of 2021. This is a free campaign available to all citizens and residents, as confirmed by health officials last week.
New Strain Of Coronavirus
The vaccination campaign comes at a very critical time.
In last week’s briefing, the NCEMA also confirmed that a few cases of the new COVID-19 variant that originated in the UK have been detected in the UAE. The affected individuals had come from abroad.
