Some huge news for the UAE as it’s been confirmed the country is going to set a minimum wage as part of their wide-ranging new labour laws.
The minimum wage will be set by the UAE cabinet following a proposal from the Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation.
With the new labour laws in force from the start of February 2022, we’d expect the new minimum wage to be announced at the same time.
The new law in question will come under Arcticle 27 of the Federal Decree Law No.33 of 2021.
As residents will know, there is currently no minimum wage. The current UAE labour laws only state that salaries must cover the basic needs of employees.
Dr Abdul Rahman Al Awar, Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation, said the new law “aims to support the UAE’s efforts to create a labour market that copes with the ever-changing modern world. It works to fulfill the aspirations of both employees and employers, reserve employee rights, and attract talents and competencies from across the globe.”
What do you think the minimum wage should be set at?
