Dubai Police arrested two Asian men after they shared a video deemed offensive in which they flaunt their wealth on social media.
Dubai police caught duo after wealth-flaunting video
In a video, one half of the duo was shown hurling banknotes worth Dhs 1,000 under his feet while the second was driving a vehicle. The case was referred to the public prosecution to take legal action against them. After questioning the duo, they admitted flaunting their money on purpose.
Duo jailed for the act
Both the offenders have been arrested by Dubai Police. Colonel Faisal Al Qasim, Director of Security Media Department at Dubai Police says “the actions taken by the suspects have provoked the indignation and provocation of society members, prompting the police to start identifying the perpetrators and arrest them.”
Dubai Police warns against misuse of wealth
Violations like these can lead to hefty fines by the police. Colonel Al Qasim warns “to commit to using social media positively and preventing the misuse of local values, cultures and traditions.” Similar violations can make offenders punishable by the UAE Federal Law No.5 of 2012 on Combating Cybercrime.
