When and where to watch the meteor shower in the UAE

Heads up star-gazing fans, as there’s another impressive UAE meteor shower heading our way!

The Perseid Meteor Shower is due to be seen above the UAE late tonight (Thursday, August 12) and into the early hours of the following morning.

And according to UAE experts, it will be one of the best this year.

“This is one of the brightest meteor showers and it will not disappoint,” said Mr Al Hariri, chief executive of the Dubai Astronomy Group.

The meteor shower will be created by small rocks or debris hitting the earth’s atmosphere, creating bright burning sparks. And there could be up to 50-100 meteors an hour.

And conditions should be good for the meteor shower according to Al Hariri.

“The Moon should be absent from the sky most of the night, meaning we should have a pristine, dark backdrop.

“For the best show, you should view it from a place with little or no light pollution.

“It will be most visible after midnight. And the showers should continue until about 4 am.”

If you’re really keen to get the best view, head up to Jebel Jais this Thursday night.

The Dubai Astronomy Group will be heading for the hills in Ras Al Khaimah from 8 pm to 4 am, with tickets AED250.
