Your passport could be a thing of the past in Dubai thanks to a new smart travel system that uses biometric pathways to identify you.
The smart travel system is contactless and free of human interaction and could seriously be a game-changer.
And it also means you don’t need to waste 30 minutes when you’re packing to find your passport every time you fly!
The General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) announced the smart gates news via Twitter.
The new system can identify you in just five to nine seconds using face and iris-recognition.
Obviously you’ll have to register your details and face first.
But once you do, your face and your Emirates ID will be enough for you to breezily waltz through passport control. The registration is valid as long as your passport is. And your boarding pass will be printed with ‘smart tunnel’ on it, meaning you can use one of the 122 smart gates around Dubai International Airport.
We’d probably still suggest taking your passport with you out of Dubai, however, as your options when you land in another country without smart gate technology might be a bit limited!
