A young Arab man is on trial at the Ras Al Khaimah Civil Court after being arrested for stealing AED150,000 in cash and AED60,000 in jewellery from his grandma.
The Grandma initially reported the robbery to the police, believing ‘gangsters’ were behind the theft.
“They have also stolen my passport, mobile phone, birth certificate, ID, and the passport of my son,” she told the cops.
But when Ras Al Khaimah Police launched an investigation, they tracked down the suspects. Who much to Grandma’s surprise, turned out to be her grandson and his friend.
Not cool, dude, not cool!
The grandson had originally borrowed AED2,000 from his grandmother to pay off a debt. But after disappearing for a while, they were found with the missing jewellery and cash in the defendant’s car and inside their hotel room.
The grandma’s handbag, ID and mobile phone were also found in her grandson’s car along with a bottle of liquor.
At trial, the grandson admitted stealing the money from his Grandma.
“I put everything (I stole) in a bag and drove my car with a friend to a local hotel, where I kept the jewels in a safe.”
His accomplice, however, was not going by the same story, claiming the grandson had told him he had permission to take the money and jewels with the grandmother’s consent.
The civil court ordered that the money be re-united with the grandma. We’re not sure the same will be said for the grandson!
